netKar Central - What do you want?

We've started working again on improving NKCentral, and we would like to know what features are important to our users. Afterall, without you guys, theres little point in us even running the site.
At the moment we're working on systems to allow uploading skins, mods, tracks and setups. We have plans to encorporate Jaap's Pro Rank system in the future, but thats a little more work.

So tell us, what features would be useful to you?

107 views and not a single reply? Is that a sign that the site is fine the way it is, or do you just not care?

The features you mentioned (the ones you are planning to add) are fine! Maybe a "Misc" section for stuff like other setup guides (the one at your side is good), track guides and so on.
Like a big digital (but free) marketplace.

Martin, I would change something on the interface. It looks not very attractive to me.

If you want your website to be the central repository for nk contents, you need to make very simple the way you can share things.

At the moment I think people need to send you an email, and I don't think this will ever be a good method.

I would take some ideas from rfactor central also:
- possibility to rate your track on different things
- add videos, images
- some kind of classification of the contents

I didnt realise the website was ever slow. Nobody had told us :/

Right now we're working on the setup file uploader, and a way for people to submit articles. Once the setup uploader is complete (possibility of it being finished by tomorrow) the rest of the features will come quicker, as its just a case of adapting the backend for the different features.

The article submission feature will allow users to add youtube videos, screenshots and other links to their articles. I'm going to write up some tutorials for including the content, to help people who arent familiar with Joomlas formatting. I imagine we will be able to include a checkbox to request that one of the NKC staff add the correct formatting, if users cannot understand it.

We hope to have the ability in the future to make the site multi-lingual. But this is a lot of work, as all the articles will need translating. Once the other features are working, we're going to look into this.

Technically track rating is already possible. But without a way for users to upload their tracks, there is little point implimenting it yet.

Thanks for your input guys. The whole reason for asking this was so that we can focus on improving the features that you think are most important.

Users now have the ability to add articles to the system, however they will need to be approved by an admin to avoid spammers making a mess of things.

We are considering creating usergroups for trusted members of leagues and such. For example, we could allow certain RSR administrators access to post and publish their own news articles, for advertising events or track releases.

This was one of the original concepts that the site was to be built upon. The only problem is the automation of it. That requires a bit of work pulling data from various websites.

I'm sure it would be possible to impliment a calender that can be manually added to, though.

EDIT: Apparently it wouldnt be hugely difficult to feed from websites, but would need a bit of work on the website owners part. I've added it to the to-do list. Thanks

We have on our website also, but it's so boring to insert things manually 2-3 times in different places...

It was, but as he's now in iRacing it isn't updated anymore.

Maybe you have to install a cache plugin for have a faster loading of the pages

No one really seems to use Jaap's.

We're working on that as we speak, as mentioned in post 1 & 5

ah yeah i see, sorry about that. i thought you meant just a simple upload space but didnt realise it was something more along the lines of a database

The plan is to be able to search by track and/or vehicle. But make it able to add setups to tracks not already in the database. If a setup is uploaded into the database that doesnt already exist, it'll temporarily create that track name and flag it up for us to check. Allows for new tracks to be added easily, and stops people creating new tracks that are already in the database.

Users will be able to add, edit, update and remove their own setups, And rate other setups. We wont initially be including a lap time dialogue box, because that can be misleading. (I'm sure people have downloaded setups from the rank and then gone much faster than the time listed)

you could add links or a list of the different existing leagues on netkar pro

Well it was my plan originally to post league results, but GPC and Radiators are the only leagues really worth mentioning at the moment.

I welcome anyone running a league to post a news article on the site about it.
