Tour of Italy Empty Tour of Italy

Post by Clive Melbourne Mon Apr 30, 2012 8:30 pm

Hi guys, at the moment I am planning a holiday in Italy . It is to celebrate the 10 year anniversary that my girlfriend and I are together.

    10/09/2012-20/09/2012

We plan to fly to Rome hire a car and ('Tour of Italy 659651')

This is a rough plan of our route......Rome/Florence/Bologna/Venice/Verona/Genoa/Pisa/Rome.

So if you have any advice on what to see/not to see!

Would also be nice to maybe meet some of you guys, if you are living anywhere near these places.

Just did a simulation of the cost of the trip....... Return flights + car hire(11days) (Fiat Bravo 1.6 or similar) 300euro per person.

    Thanks for any help.
    Clive

PS. Do you think it's possible to do this trip in 10 days?

Instead of Genoa and Verona I'd rather stay more days in Rome (which requires a few days).

Genova and Verona are very beautiful cities, but Roma (Vatican City), Firenze and Venezia take time to visit well. For Genova you unnecessarily lengthen the route (imho).

Clive, I would miss also Bologna, which is not very nice to see (also Genova is not that special)...and instead of seeing Pisa (there's just the tower, nothing more!), why don't you go to Siena? It is much much better then Pisa, and there are a lot of lovely country and small town around there (Montalcino, Pienza, you can't miss that places!!!)...
10 days it is quite a short time to go all around there, but you can do that (without Bologna and Genova)...
I go almost all the week-end in Venice (my girlfriend is from there), so maybe we can meet over there!!! Keep in touch!

p.s. Do not rent a Fiat Bravo unless you want to spend half of the travel wainting for the mechanich!!! :-)

Hi Clive, happy that you come to Italy!
I would like to suggest you this event: http://www.crame.it/imola-mostra-scambio.asp
It is a fair of Vintage Cars and Bikes, and relevant spare parts, held into the Imola circuit.
The dates are 14, 15 and 16 of september.
The nice part, imho, is that with a cheap ticket (10 euro a person a day) you can visit by feet the whole track, with no hurry and looking at beautful machines in the meantime. Imola Circuit is very easy to reach from Autoroute and from Via Emilia). If you go from Rome to Venice in those days, chances are that you will touch EmiliaRomagna in some way.
    Have fun! Smile

Well only a few days to go before we go to Italy on holidays. We will stay in Rome for 3 days then collect the hire car and head for Florence and then on to Venice , hope to be in Venice on the 15th.
Fabio Grippa if you are around that weekend in Venice it would be great to meet up.
After the weekend in Venice will start to make our way back down to Rome, taking a route down by Tuscany .
Really hope that the weather is nice and sunny.
