how to create flags with KofLite Empty how to create flags with KofLite

Post by Andrea Lojelo Tue Jun 08, 2010 9:29 pm

to create a flag in KofLite you need to follow this procedure:

EDIT: Still not working. We need Kunos support Crying or Very sad

    1) in your 3d model create a box named INV_FLAG_(min_sector)_(max_sector) in he position in which you want to have a flag.
for example INV_FLAG_1_5 will be waved id an accident is between sector 1 and 5 and you are with you car in it.
Note that for nKPRO a flag is waved when a car is off road. This will make the testing of your flags extremely easy: just go off-road and you will see all flags waving.
    2) when you load the .ASE you will not see you "Flags box". Those objects are recognized by the KofLite as reference points
    3) in the physic track tab select the button Flags from 3(d)
    4) save the .kto
    5) open the track in nkpro (in practice for example). nkpro will generate a file called {nkpro main folber}\flags.ini
    6) copy the file {nkpro main folber}\flags.ini in your track folder: {your track}\flags.ini

Thanks to Kunos and Si3v to help me out with this!

Procudere fixed. The correct object name is INV_FLAG_(min_sector)_(max_sector) instead of FLAG_(min_sector)_(max_sector) as previously stated.

So, if this is still not working, what is the correct procedure?

Gek developed a program to do it automatically. We use this program in the team to optimize the KTO and to identify what can be improved.
This program isn't available yet for public download, since we still want to work on it.

If you need to create your flags, please create boxes named INV_FLAG_(min_sector)_(max_sector) in he position in which you want to have a flags.
Then, create a kto and send the full package to us. We will generate the flags file for you.

Ah okay, thanks. This procedure works, you just have to delete the INV_FLAG files AFTER you started the track in nks.exe and copied the generated file into the track folder.
    Then you can see them.

I mean delete the INV_FLAG objects in 3ds max. It worked for me, I couldn't see them because they were behind the material for the INV_FLAG objects, but I can see them now, and my flags.ini also updated itself.

one small note: the white/checked flag should have
    MIN=0
    MAX=0

This is an explanation by Andrea of a question i asked

"the way flags works is very simple:
in the flags.ini you specify the
position of the flag (x,y,z) and the sectors in which it needs to be
    active (min_sector and max_sector).
If you go off road with 2 (or 3 I can't remember) tyres, then it will be waved.

The same file is used for yellow an blue flags.
    let's make an example:
let's imagine that you are in sector 5.
    you
would expect to see a yellow flag if there is an incident in the
following sectors (depending on how big are the sectors, can be 1 or
    2. so 6 or 7 as max_sector).
just the opposite is for the blue
flags, where you expect to see a blue flag is someone, faster then you,
is behind you. so maybe -1 or -2, so min_sector= 3 or 4

    so at the
end you will have a quite big window in which that flag is waved. this
is due to the fact that you have completely opposite needs for blue and
    yellow flags.

Furthermore, yellow flags are activated only in
case you go off road (that is covering the 99% of the cases). So if you
hit a wall (but there is no grass or sand), or if you collide with an
other car, or if you will spin on track, no flag will be waved."

So in a hypothetically naming of the sectors in the following way in this track (i just made it up, for an example)
how to create flags with KofLite Flagssuzuka

01road01 is sector 1, 02road01 is sector 2 and so far.
if the orange dots are marshalls (flags), for the one after the hairpin in the start of sector 3, it should be Min=1 Max=3
for the orange dot in the end of the straight, min=1 max=1
and the one in sector 4 min=2 max=4

is that right? assuming those are yellow flags.

how to create flags with KofLite Empty Re: how to create flags with KofLite

    I would do this way:
flag 1 (the one at the end of the straigh): min=1, max=2 or 3 . The sect1 is very long, so it's fine to see the blue flag if there is a car in sect1, and a yellow flag if there is an incident in sect2. Sect 3 is maybe too far away for a yellow flag.

flag 2 (at the start of sect 3): min=1 or 2, max=4 or 5. I can see that flag when I'm running out of the corner. I'm on sect 2 there. so, I want yellow flag if there is an incident in sect 3-4, and maybe even 5. I want a blue flag if there is someone in my sector or the previous, so 1-2.

Trying to make flags by tutorial in first post.
I had made boxes in 3dsmax named like INV_FLAG_1_3 ... after that I made ASE with this objects. In KOFLite I see flags when I'm pressing flags from 3d but nothing flags.ini create in netkar folder after running practice in the game.

    What I make wrong?

Same for me now in 1.3 Final.
Also, if I create the flags.ini manually by placing boxes in MAX and noting down their coordinates in the right way, they aren't displayed in the game.

Okay, I noticed the flags are there but they are in totally different places than they should. Either they are 100 metres or so up in the air or they're 100 metres under the track. Sad What do I have to do?
